CGH Sponsored Summer Research Opportunities

Each summer, the Center for Global Health works with a number of our partners to secure research placements within their summer research programs. This means they reserve spots specifically for Earlham Students! While some of the positions are clinical/ public health based, the majority are wet bench research positions. These positions scan the field of biomedical research, including neuroscience. Research positions are open to all students on campus, regardless of prior experience, although some do require prerequisite of upper-level coursework.

STARK Neuroscience

  • Program Dates: June – July (9 weeks)
  • Focus: Biomedical Neuroscience Research
  • Topics: Pain & Sensor Systems; Spinal Cord & Brain Injury; Developmental, Affective, Mood, Movement, Neurodegenerative & Addictive Disorders
  • Placements: 2
  • Desired Skills: Scientific (Primary) Literacy: PubMed, Basic Research Laboratory Skills and Safety Knowledge, Strong Work Ethic and Ability to Thrive in a Professional Setting

Wells Center for Pediatric Research

  • Program Dates: June – July (9 weeks)
  • Location: Indianapolis, IN
  • Focus: Pediatric Research
  • Topics: Asthma, Childhood Lung Disease, Lung Growth & Development
  • Placements: 2
  • Desired Skills: Lab Experience, BIOL 341: Cell Physiology (Required)

Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health

  • Program Dates: TBD
  • Location: Indianapolis, IN
  • Focus: Public Health – Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes)
  • Topics: Cancer Prevention and Survivorship Care Program, Pain Management Program

  • Focus: Industry, Agriculture, Natural Resources, Environment
  • Topics: Agriculture & Food, Health & Medicine, Energy & Environment, Bioresource Conservation and Utilization

  • Please note this year BIOTEC is funned through the Freeman Grant, and therefore is NOT open to International Students

Individual projects and PI’s will likely be determined closer to the summer. You are advised to look up each instituation and familiarize yourself with the research that is being conducted there!
